Local Development Control Through Building Typology and Form
Date: 10.SEPT.22 - 26.NOV.22
Time: 11:00am - 8:00pm
Place: North Point (East) Ferry Pier

The ongoing research conducted by the Committee aims to trace and re-discover the “mastermind” at work behind our architectural forms – the influence of building regulations in Hong Kong on the establishment of unique modern architecture in Hong Kong, in an attempt to provide a way to objectively evaluate architectural heritage. Slated for redevelopment, the Yau Tsim Mong District offers a timely site for discussion. How do we evaluate the heritage value of relatively young buildings that are built in the district? What are some key architectural features influenced by regulations? The exhibit describes and uncovers some of these architectural qualities, from building setbacks to balconies over streets. The accompanying website aims to offer an interactive method to let visitors of the biennale record other buildings with similar influences and raise awareness to buildings that might soon otherwise meet a more dismal fate.
