Infinite Use of a Finite Thing
Date: 10.SEPT.22 - 26.NOV.22
Time: 11:00am - 8:00pm
Place: Cafe Pier 7, Star Ferry Pier, Central

Rammed earth is an age-old technique that has been sought after by conscious designers and architects nowadays. Not only is it appealing in its look and touch, as a building material it provides an excellent thermal mass for cooling and heating, its breathability helps regulate humidity in a space. When built unstabilized, it is entirely recyclable.

INFINITE USE OF A FINITE THING is a band of earth rammed to seat height, intended to be served as a bench for dialogue and imagination. The rammed earth bench is coupled with the formwork that has been used for making it. Within it, earth mixture is set loose to exhibit the raw material used, and to suggest a continuation of the ramming process. The segmental build-up is a scalable approach, suggesting not only an infinite extension of the earth modules, but also an inviting visual statement in a variety of settings.

Hong Kong Soil

Hong Kong Soil is an initiative since 2021 advocating meaningful reuse of discarded soil from local construction sites. Currently led by two creatives, product designer Niko Leung and architectural designer Loky Leung – with care, we design, research, experiment and make, repurposing “unworthy” soil into usable goods that are novel for our everyday life and thoughtful for our land.
